ALL ABOARD THE BLUE CABOOSE Yes, WGHS has been given a caboose! What a wonderful new exhibit to add to the only Railroad museum in Gadsden County - Greensboro Depot Railroad Museum! Ducky Johnson House Movers completed the move in February 2024.
Now it is time to restore the caboose. Would you like to help? Construction experience? Painting? Cheerleading? Come out and support this wonderful opportunity to restore HISTORY!
We are always in need to financial support and as a non-profit organization, all donations are tax deductible. This is a wonderful project where kids can earn community hours needed for school. Let us know! We need your help and support! Gadsdenhistory.org@gmail.com THANK YOU!
PLEASE DONATE FUNDS BELOW
We have been so fortunate to receive support from local businesses!
Stones of Quincy stepped up to donated railroad ties,
Anderson Columbia donated the gravel rock ballast and an additional 25 new railroad ties,
The Bay Line Railroad, Panama City, located and donated original rails and tie plates used by the Apalachicola Northern Railroad, and additionally donated new railway spikes to secure the rails, and
Johnson Farm has donated their equipment and time to pick up all of these materials and deliver them to our site.
A huge thank you goes out to our members and volunteers that step up to perform "manual" labor to construct the new section of rail line. Under the tutelage of The Bay Line Railroad employees, we succeed in constructing 40 feet of railroad!
Would you like to help? Construction experience? Painting? Cheerleading? Come out and support this wonderful opportunity to restore HISTORY. THANK YOU!
Johnson Farm has volunteered to remove the old ballast and rails and clean up the site after the move.

Gadsden County is located in the rural area of the Florida Panhandle. Once with a large agricultural based economy, it primarily serves today as a bedroom community for workers who commute to Tallahassee for employment. Residents today enjoy beautiful oak hammocks, pine forests and smaller yet rich agricultural farms. Our lakes, our rich history and our small town life, is something everyone can find in Gadsden County.
No matter how long you spend at The Dezell House, there’s always so much to see and do. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, museum exhibits are created to reflect life in Gadsden County from the 1820's to 1960's. Farming, military service, local businesses, and country living highlights the rural area of the North Florida Panhandle.
If you are a railroad enthusiast, the Greensboro Depot Railroad Museum is a must visit. Approved by the State of Florida Historical Marker Council, the Greensboro Depot is the last surviving original structure of those built in 1907 by the Apalachicola Northern Railroad. Restored to its original beauty, the depot houses our collection of railroad memorabilia from a bygone era.

An exhibit of uniforms, war time memorabilia and a listing of all those who perished are memorialized. A special recognition to those service members who are still with us will be honored. Please come by and take a moment to visit with these individuals as they share their war-time experiences.
New exhibits and items have been added to both locations and we believe you will enjoy seeing our progress. You KNOW you want to climb into the caboose and hear our plans!
Coastal Seafood will be serving seafood at the Dezell House from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and our famous bake sale will offer up those desserts we await all year.

The Medical Practitioners of Gadsden County showcases members of medicine who were active in the county prior to 1965. These individuals’ biographies open a window to a very different time for both a profession and a community, when the availability of material goods — even medical necessities — and the established beliefs and practices of professionals were less certain.
